Customer appreciation dinner is held by bank

First Bank and Trust of Covington held a customer appreciation dinner June 3 at the Covington Fire Station. Hamburgers and hot dogs were grilled outdoors for the dinner. Prizes went to Pauline Meyer, $25 gift certificate from Covington General Store; Mason Bolz, ice chest; Charles Metscher, Dr. Chicken’s Road Kill Catering for two sides of ribs or a smoked turkey; and Terry Kaiser, lawn chair.

Clark-Perrin American Legion Post 190 will apply for a charitable gaming license for the purpose of bingo at 302 E. Purdue, Enid.

Covington Historical Society met June 1 at Tri-County Senior Center. The group discussed where and how to display items. Things were brought in that had been collected for the historical group. Members attending were Herb and Zoe Bolz, Dorothy Murphy, Viva Nida, Jim and Linda Postier and Patty Meyer.

Home and School Club met June 2 at the senior center with Pat Powers hosting. Members attending were Maidee Leforce, Lovella Pattrick, Sharoll Kegin, Linda Beck, Carla Aguirre, Irene Reinhardt, Zoe Bolz and Pat Powers. Guests were Dana Rink, Peyton and Ella Mitchell.

The Covington-Douglas Board of Education met June 1. They voted to accept Alternative Education Academy for the 2009-2010 school year. The board approved the summer basketball camp with 80 percent of the net profit to coach and 20 percent profit to school. Jenni Lam was approved for physical therapist assistant services for the 2009-2010 school year and Diana Cox was approved for physical therapy services for the 2009-2010 school year. The board approved the appointment of Sherrie Wyssmann as activity fund co-signer and custodian of the fund, encumbrance clerk, board minutes clerk and child nutrition compliance officer for the 2009-2010 school year. They approved the appointment of Terry Kaiser as the child nutrition custodian, treasurer for the 2009-2010 school year, with the deletion of board minutes clerk. They approved the appointment of Brian Smith as activity co-signer, Title IX compliance officer, equal opportunity employer compliance officer and civil rights compliance officer for the 2009-2010 school year. The board accepted the resignation of Cindy Black, councilor. They voted to hire Sharon Sebranek as an elementary teacher. They voted to hire Tayler Lickliter as student teacher’s aid for summer school.

Covington-Douglas Senior Commence-ment was held May 23. Processional was played by Alice Marie Mack. Pledge of allegiance was by Earl Murphy. Nick Phillips gave the invocation. Salutatory address was given by Joey Jimenez. Valedictory address was by Breanna Bergdall and Robin Donaldson. The Covington-Douglas school system awarded a Covington-Douglas High School diploma to the family of Vietnam veteran Jerry Bailey, who left school early to enter the service. Bailey died five years ago, so Robin Donaldson, Covington-Dougas senior president, presented the award to Bailey’s widow, Mary Bailey, of Lawton. Also in attendance were his two sons, four grandchildren and three sisters.

Covington-Douglas alumni banquet for 2009 was held May 23. The class of 1959 celebrated its 50th anniversary with 16 in attendance. Door prizes were given out at the banquet to Lora Baker Hartman, Wandola Gregg Loskridge, Loretta Carter Bell, Marion Wagner Cline and Dick Castle.

First Baptist Church will host a free movie night in the park today with free drinks and popcorn. The movie is “Fireproof” and will begin at dusk. Bring lawn chairs and bug spray.

Covington United Methodist Church will have an administrative board meeting at noon following the fellowship dinner today.

The 5th Sunday Sing was held at Covington United Methodist Church May 31. The following presented special numbers: St. John’s Praise Singers; Donna Beckner and Sherry Ashley; Boyd Cline; George Kegin; Lucien Choir; Mike Bolz; Carol Kegin; and Shannan Lemmons. Refreshments were served in the fellowship hall.
