Two area men were injured late Sunday night when their vehicle went out of control on a muddy road and slid into a ravine.
According to a report from the Oklahoma High-way Patrol, Nicholus Z. McDowell, 19, of Wood-ward, was listed in serious condition at Woodward Regional Hospital with numerous injuries.
A passenger, 19-year-old Devin Joe Covalt, of Sharon, was taken to Woodward Regional Hos-pital, and then transferred to St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Enid, suffering head, neck, arm and leg injuries. He was listed in good condition.
The accident occurred at 11:35 p.m. Sunday 2.5 miles east of Woodward on a rain-slick county road. According to the OHP report McDowell was driving eastbound in a 2004 Chevy pickup when he lost control on the muddy road, ran off the south side of the roadway and into the ravine, with the vehicle’s nose striking the ground and coming to rest on its wheels.
Seatbelts were not in use, according to OHP.
Trooper Phillip Lud-wyck of the Woodward detachment investigated the accident, assisted by Woodward County She-riff’s Department and Woodward fire and EMS.
