Blood drives on tap, starting today, Friday



Enid Senior Care, 410 N. 30th, is holding a blood drive 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today for Oklahoma Blood Institute.

On Friday, Northwest Oklahoma Blood Institute, 301 E. Cherokee, and Oklahoma Beef Council partner to offer all-beef hotdogs, chips and soft drinks to blood donors 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Donors also will receive a blood donor T-shirt, Members for Life points to redeem at Oklahoma Blood Institute’s online store and free health screenings. One donor at each OBI center will win an Oklahoma Beef Council prize basket that includes a $100 Visa gift card.







Hawley Cemetery to hold annual meeting Monday



Hawley Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. Monday. The agenda will include a short devotional message, the annual business report and any new business to be brought up for discussion. All members of the association are invited to attend and observe the new “service building” that has been provided for the cemetery.

The cemetery is located one mile north of the Hawley town site. Due to the closure of Oklahoma 132 for the Salt Fork River bridge replacement, those who come from the areas to the south will need to come to Hawley by way of the Trenton Road blacktop, five miles west of the U.S. 81 and U.S. 64 intersection, or go five miles east of Nash, six miles north and three miles west to Hawley.







Area school reunions set for Saturday



Several area school reunions have been set for this Saturday.

The Orlando school reunion is scheduled at Orlando School. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Noon meal is catered by Klein’s BBQ. Attendees can pay at the door for the meal. A program will follow the meal. Former students, teachers, spouses, bus drivers and friends are welcome.

The Hayward school reunion will be held at Lucien Community Center. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. The business meeting starts at 2:30 with the meal served at 4.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share at the meal. No reservations are required. Former students, graduates or not, teachers, spouses and friends are invited.

A lunch for the 1939 and 1949 graduates of Hayward school will be at 11:30 a.m. at Sooner Restaurant, Perry. No reservation are required.

Ames Cemetery is site of Memorial Day service



Members of Jaynes-Kennedy American Legion Post 340, with the help of surrounding communities, will hold a traditional military memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday at Ames Cemetery.

The service will include patriotic speeches, a 3-volley rifle salute, the singing of patriotic songs by local talent and the playing of live echo taps at the conclusion of the program.

Kalene Toelle, band director and music teacher at Kremlin-Hillsdale, will recount a conversation she had during a band trip to Europe with a Polish woman who survived a Nazi concentration camp.

At 11 a.m., there will be a fly-over by two T-6 Texan trainer aircraft from Vance Air Force Base.







Family mediation slated for next week in Enid



A 40-hour family mediation course will be Wednesday through May 30 in Enid.

The course is designed to train people to mediate family and divorce matters and meets the training requirements for professional mediators to qualify for the district court and is approved by Oklahoma Bar Association for mandatory continuing legal education.

Judges throughout Oklahoma are referring family matters to mediation in the hope couples might resolve matters on a voluntary basis and avoid an expensive legal battle. People who complete the course will receive a certificate and be qualified to assist in resolving a variety of family and divorce matters.

The course is sponsored by the Mediation Institute, a private, not-for-profit organization that conducts training in throughout Oklahoma.

Limited scholarship assistance is available. The course will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all four days.
