Woman charged in abuse

A 28-year-old Enid woman was arraigned Friday on felony charges of child and domestic abuse.

Carla R. Jackson was charged with child abuse and domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor, subsequent offense, for striking her 9-year-old daughter and husband May 10, the charges allege.

Because of two prior felony convictions for child abuse and domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor, Jackson faces 10 years to life in prison for the child abuse charge and one to five years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $7,000 on the domestic assault and battery.

According to an affidavit filed with the charges, Enid police were called to Jackson’s home about 2:34 a.m. May 10 by her husband, who told police Carla was “beating” on him.

When police arrived they saw Jackson run toward the house and followed her. They saw Jackson pulling her husband by the hair while her daughter stood by crying for her to stop, the affidavit states. Police note in the affidavit the girl had a small stream of blood coming from her nose.

Police ordered Jackson to release her husband and placed her under arrest.

The man told police he and Jackson had gone out for drinks earlier in the night and he had left Jackson at the bar when she started yelling, according to the affidavit.

The man told police when Jackson came back to the house she began to hit their daughter as she cowered on the couch, the affidavit states.

Jackson’s daughter also told police her mother had come into the house and began to yell at her. She told police she had curled up on the couch and her mother punched her in the face twice, the affidavit states.

Jackson is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond and was ordered to return to court June 16 for a bond appearance.
