Leonardo’s kicks off ‘Fun’ Tuesday

Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse is getting a jump on its annual “100 Days of Summer Fun” with a Family Night 5:30-7:30 Tuesday at the science museum’s outdoor park, Adventure Quest.

Sponsored by Oklahoma Museum Network and funded by Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, the evening will include games, prizes, face-painting, a well-balanced meal, summer activities information and play time in the three-story castle. In the event of rain, Family Night will be moved inside the museum, 200 E. Maple.

Sherry Marshall, network administrator from Science Museum Oklahoma, will be on hand with fun science activities. Leonardo’s also will demonstrate use of a Segway and gyroscopes.

“Summer is our favorite season, and we just could not wait to get it started this year,” said Julie Baird, Leonardo’s executive director. She added, “2008 promises to be a very busy summer with preparing for the local network launch in August. We hope everyone will plan to be part of the excitement.”

Reservations are required for Family Night, which will include a choice of barbecue beef or chicken salad sandwich, chips, cookie and a drink. Cost is $1 per person for Leonardo’s members and $2 for non-members. The deadline for reservations is 5 p.m. Sunday.

Twilight Time, extended hours at Adventure Quest, begins May 27. The park will be open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday through Labor Day. Twilight Time is sponsored by Star Tek.

“Our goal is to offer something extra for our guests every day during the summer. It could be something as small as Morse Code Day or as big as the annual Hometown 4th of July celebration,” Baird concluded.
