Cheyenne Valley rural school will have an alumni reunion soon.
Cheyenne Valley is an area in western Major County, northwest of Fairview, between the first two ranges of the Gloss Mountains. In early statehood, there were several rural schools in the area. They consolidated in 1922 and a brick school building was built and became County School District No. 2.
The school building was located on the Robert Taylor farm, on the west side of County Road 2440, north of U.S. 412.
The school closed in 1964 and the building was demolished.
Only the gymnasium remains. It serves as the area community building, and each year, students from the school have a gala alumni reunion.
This year the class of 1959 is being honored at the reunion. Seven students were in that class: Gary Slater, Darrel Long, John Edwards, Karlene Warner, Delores Tucker, Loren Brewer and Leola Patterson.
Charlyn Parker is this year’s reunion coordinator.
