Chisholm High School graduates 73

By Robert Barron Staff Writer

High school graduation is a time people will remember the rest of their lives. It is the end of a long educational process, and the beginning of another journey — a passage into adulthood, celebrated with silly string.

The 2006 Chisholm High School graduating class, 73 strong, was called dedicated and intelligent by Principal J. Scot Trower, who said they were a group dedicated to serving others.

Nine valedictorians spoke briefly to their classmates, family and friends.

They all gave thanks to their parents and teachers for their encouragement and support, their friends for sticking by them and to God for making the trip possible.

One, Anastacia Vega, said, “Thank you is not enough.”

“This class is definitely the most intelligent, the sharpest I have been associated with in 12 years in education,” Trower said. “They are great kids.”

Trower said the class is “dedicated to servanthood.”

“They have given of themselves more than any class, more than they expect in return,” he said.

Superintendent Roydon Til-ley said the group is intelligent. Six seniors received a score of 30 or above on the ACT.

“This is a class of some individuals who will be contributors to society. Kids like this confirm to me that society is in good hands,” Tilley said.

The evening began with the traditional processional. Class member Joseph Nixon gave the benediction. Valedictorians who spoke were Vega, Ryan Schultz, Randi Simpson, Melissa Reitz, Jordan Lack, Blake Burnett, Carrie Highfill, Hilario Trejo and Chris Shobe.

Diplomas were presented by Terri Keuchel, president of the Chisholm school board, and Tilley, followed by a benediction by senior Ciji Prosser.

Chisholm teacher Amy Broadbent, in her first year at the school, said class members impressed her by their long-lasting friendships and camaraderie.
