Man charged with repeatedly harassing woman

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

Less than a week after appearing in court on two counts of domestic assault and battery, an Enid man was charged again for harassing the same woman.

James Carl Morris, 40, was arraigned Friday on a felony charge of first-degree burglary and misdemeanor violation of a protective order.

According to online court records, Morris had posted $2,000 bond on two misdemeanor domestic assault cases filed against him April 28, and a protective order was issued against him for the alleged victim in the cases.

Wednesday, Enid police responded to a call about 2 a.m. concerning a violation of a protective order against Morris, according to an affidavit.

Morris’s ex-girlfriend told police she woke up and saw Morris standing in the doorway of her bedroom. When she asked what he wanted, she said Morris replied: “I just want to talk to you.” She said Morris crawled into bed with her and her daughter and said, “Daddy’s home.”

Police searched the woman’s home and found Morris hiding in the attic of a garage, the affidavit states. Police noted in the affidavit Morris’s shoes were muddy and the tread on the shoes matched a footprint near a door that had been kicked in.

Because of four prior felony convictions, Morris faces 20 years to life on the felony burglary charge. He also faces up to a year in county jail, a fine of up to $1,000 or both for the violation of a protective order charge.

Special District Judge Paul Woodward revoked Morris’ bonds the two misdemeanor domestic abuse cases and set bond at $12,500 for each case. Woodward set bond on the new charges at $75,000.
