Covington-Douglas hands out senior awards

Covington-Douglas High school prom is set for Saturday, May 10 at Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse in Enid.
A promenade prior to the prom will begin at 6 p.m. at the Covington-Douglas gym. An after-prom party will be held at Denny Price Family YMCA.

Baccalaureate will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Fourth-graders will visit Alabaster Caverns Tuesday.

Eight-grade graduation will be 8 p.m. Thursday. A dance will follow 9-11:30 p.m.

High school commencement will be 2 p.m. May 17.

The all-sports banquet was May 5. Cari Kaiser and Ryan Donaldson received the Outstanding Athlete awards. Four-year lettermen awards were given to Garrett Cassody, basketball and football; Ryan Donaldson, basketball, baseball and football; Daniel Faubion, basketball, baseball and football; Erin Garcia, fast-pitch softball, basketball and slow-pitch softball; Chase Harmon, basketball, cross county and track; Cari Kaiser, fast-pitch softball, basketball and slow-pitch softball; Kendra Knouse, fast-pitch softball, basketball and slow-pitch softball; Skylar Rink, football; Brandon Schram, basketball and football; Ashley Sebranek, fast-pitch softball, basketball and slowpitch softball; Mikkelle Slemp, slow-pitch softball; and Zack Wilson, football.
The Covington-Douglas Lady Cats slowpitch softball team were the State Class Two A Academic Champions. They were presented a trophy at the Softball Hall of Fame Stadium on Thursday, May 1, 2008.
Covington-Douglas track team members placing at the State Track Meet, Saturday, May 3 at Mustang include: Kayla Wheeler, 6th, Shot Put; Katie Houston, 6th, Pole Vault; Chase Harmon, 4th, 300 hurdles; Kyle Knouse, 6th, 110 hurdles.
The Covington-Douglas FFA Banquet was held Tuesday, May 6. Star Awards were presented to Garrett Cassody, Star Farm Credit Bookeeping; Wendy Wicker, Star Discovery; Lacy Lairmore, Star Greenhand; Earl Murphy, Star Chapter FFA Degree. Proficiency Awards went to Bailey Rink, Agricultural Processing; Jeff Carpenter, Sheep production; Earl Murphy, Sheep production placement; Jenny Harris, Beef Production; Crystal Lairmore, Equine Production. Guest speaker was Cody Nieman, Northeast District Vice President. Garrett Cassody and Crystal Lairmore received the State Farmer Degree at the State FFA Convention. Courtney Newman received the American Farmer Degree at the National FFA Convention. A labor auction, conducted by Wayne Casteel, Perry Auctioneer, was held following the program.

Community
The Home and School Club met Tuesday, May 6 at La Macarena Restaurant in Perry for lunch. The group sang happy birthday to Pat Powers, who also won the hostess gift. Christina Rink was hostess. Pat Powers will be hostess for June. Members attending were Zoe Bolz, Lovella Pattrick, Irene Reinhardt, Pat Powers and Christina Rink. Guests attending included Mary Wyssman, Merritt and Eileen Olmstead and Dick Powers.
The public is invited to attend the seminar "Longterm Care-Family Affair," at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Enid, Sunday, May 18, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, conducted by Darla Schminke of Marshall. Time is 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hamburgers, chips and dessert will be served along with door prizes being given out.
