Rain came down, streets flooded

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

Rain and roads were problems police and others faced Wednesday as more than 2 inches of rain dumped on Enid.

Enid Police Department officers responded to 23 flood-related and high-water incidents between 4:23 and 5:41 p.m. Wednesday, according to police reports.

Capt. Dean Grassino said police responded to incidents in which motorists drove into high water on roadways, flooding out their vehicles.

“We want to remind motorist that they should use extreme caution when water is over the roadway and not to drive into areas that are prone to flooding,” Grassino said.

Garfield County Emergency Management Director Mike Honigsberg said the Enid area received 2.2 inches of rainfall by late afternoon.

According to the Mesonet weather site at Breckin-ridge, 1.46 inches of rain was recorded as of 8:25 p.m.

Other Mesonet rain totals in the area were: Medford, 1.10; Lahoma, 1.20; Kingfisher, 2.93; Watonga, 1.71; Fairview, .64; Alva, .59; Seiling, .55; Woodward, .48; and Marshall, 2.71.

Rain also postponed Enid’s first-round Class 6A state baseball tournament game with Yukon at Claremore’s Legion Field. The two teams rescheduled for 4 p.m. today.

Today is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 77 in Enid, according to Rick Mitchell, chief meteorologist for KOCO TV. There is a 40 percent chance of storms tonight, with a low of 54, and another chance of storms Saturday.
