Search warrants result in arrests

By Cass Rains, Staff Writer

Two men were arrested Friday after the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office served two search warrants.

Members of the sheriff’s office served the first search warrant at 12:45 p.m. Friday at 2509 W. Randolph.

Undersheriff Jerry Niles said Noble County Sheriff’s Office notified him they had received information a trailer stolen during an April 4 burglary in Perry may be at the Randolph residence.

During their investigation, deputies spoke with Michael Hicks.

“Mr. Hicks confessed to stealing the trailer and told us where it had been moved to,” Niles said.

The trailer was recovered at a residence in the 700 block of West Walnut, where deputies had served another search warrant.

Deputies arrested Hicks on a complaint of knowingly concealing stolen property and also arrested Paul Hammonds on a county bench warrant. The investigation is ongoing.

“We do know other suspects were involved,” Niles said.

Niles urged property owners to record serial numbers of valuables, take photographs of jewelry and secure items in a safe or a secure facility. Recording serial numbers or etching valuables with an identification number aids law enforcement in recovering stolen property.

“It helps us tremendously,” Niles said.
