Area college students planning several summer mission trips

By Jim Wilkinson, Fairview Correspondent

Several college students from Fairview United Methodist Church have made arrangements to take church mission trips this summer.

Jerrica Becker is attending college at Duke University, preparing for law school. Due to recent publicity of the need for help in African countries, she has scheduled a trip to Kenya. She will depart July 27 for a two-week session.

While there she will be helping teach students of impoverished families. She is the daughter of Paul and Connie Becker, Fairview.

Three students will join a team going to Guatemala this month.

Mandy Redinger is attending school at the University of Central Oklahoma. She plans to graduate in December and is majoring in child development. She made the trip to Guatemala in 2008 and has been an inspiration to others to make a trip there to help needy children at the Casa Para Ninos Aleluya orphanage.

Nathan Redinger is a freshman at Southwestern Oklahoma State University this year and elected to make the trip to Guatemala upon learning of the experiences his sister had last year at Casa. They are the children of Rich and Cathy Redinger.

The third member of the Guatemala team is Erica Lawrence. She is a freshman at Southwestern. She is the daughter of Danny and Joy Lawrence, Fairview. She has not selected her major yet, but will be working with children and assisting in a youth ministry after completion of her formal education.

 Community

The city of Fairview is bracing for the upcoming high school alumni reunion to be June 26-28. Classes whose graduation years end in the numbers 4 and 9 will have special celebrations.

School

Fairview High School’s indoor track team won the state meet in Enid this winter. Boosters are endeavoring to reward the 18 team members by having a fundraiser.

House numbers are being painted on curbs in exchange for donations. Proceeds will be applied toward state rings honoring the boys for this achievement.

Call Debra Button or Jim Blevins at (580) 227-4446.
