K-H girls, guys vie for pageant titles

By Doug Kirkpatrick, Kremlin correspondent

Seventeen Kremlin-Hillsdale elementary students vied for the crowns of Little Miss KHS and Junior Miss KHS. By audience vote, Naomi Bailey, pre-kindergarten and daughter of Robbie Bailey and Crystal Bashem, won the Little Miss KHS title. Kristin Helm, pre-kindergarten daughter of Jody and Teresa Helm, was runner-up.

Kenzie Grauberger, fourth-grade daughter of Cale and Jennifer Grauberger, won Junior Miss KHS title and Shaylee Rhodes, fourth-grade daughter of Mike and Jacque Roberts and Branden and Tracie Rhodes, was runner-up.

The event was a fundraiser for KHS Classroom Teachers Association senior scholarship program.

Seniors Katie Woodall, Missuy Austin and Kaelob Kershner worked with the pre-kindergarten/kindergarten group — McClaren Annis, Naomi Bailey, Kloee Grauberger, Kristen Helm, Harley Perdue and Emily Rodriguez. Carley Miller, Jen Biby and Kelsie Saudenecker coached the second- and third-graders — Jazzy Jacobs, Hannah Carson, Megan Carson and Maysie Couchman. Amanda Martin, Tomi Lakin and Matt Regier helped fourth- and fifth-graders — Britni Boyd, Kenzie Grauberger, Shaylee Rhodes, Caileigh Rodriguez, Jordan Harris, MiKayla Horning and Jessica Wooten.

Five senior boys participated in the Mt. Bronc contest that was intermingled with the girls‘ pageant. Austin “Tacious” Jones, Michael “Lundy“ Lundy, Gilbert “Mauler“ Morris, Brett “The Snake“ Sissom and Josh “Big Red“ Toews participated in dresswear and creative wear. The group talent was a dance to a three song melody. Sissom was named Mr. Bronc while Jones won best creative wear, Lundy won best dresswear, Morris was Mr. Congeniality and Toews took the audience choice award by raising the most money from the crowd.

KHS Classroom Teachers Association also held a silent auction for several desserts. More than $450 was raised for scholarships. The boys also raised an additional $160 for the senior class trip.

WildHorse Pull Tab Competition benefiting the Ronald McDonald House ended April 24 at Kremlin-Hillsdale Elementary School. First- through fourth-grades were led WildHorse member Rebekah Gannon, who served as competition chairperson. Each class was provided a five-gallon WildHorse bucket. The third grade class filled one bucket and started on a second. The winning class will be rewarded with a plaque and a pizza party.

WildHorse Gang continues to collect aluminum cans on a lot provided by Kremlin Co-op. The gang recently collected 22 bags of cans from the Pond Creek community. Money derived from the sale of these cans goes to the Kremlin swimming pool maintenance fund.

Kremlin-Hillsdale junior-senior prom, with the “Candyland” theme, was held April 17 at First Assembly of God Church.

Kremlin-Hillsdale student body voted in officers and representatives for the 2009-2010 student council. Currently, the student council by-laws provide for the vice president to succeed to the president. Jake Streck will be Kremlin-Hillsdale student council president and Jorden Bowen will be secretary/treasurer. Senior representatives are Shannen Davis and Cordell Lloyd, junior representatives are Danielle Stoneberg and Bailey Craig, sophomore representatives are Jennifer Pekrul and Jeremy Maxwell and freshman representatives are Sarah Stein and Ricki Schroeder. Wendi Murray is STUCO sponsor.
