Local students competed in state spelling bee

Glenwood Elementary School sixth-grader Carson Walker and Chisholm Elementary School fifth-grader Falon Robinett competed in the 2009 Scripps Central Oklahoma Spelling It! Bee held March 29 at the University of Okla-homa.

There are three levels of bees in Oklahoma. At the school round, the top two spellers are determined by a bee held at each respective school. Next is the regional level, where those top two spellers from each school advance to a regional competition. And finally, the top two spellers from each regional competition advance to the state bee.

Enid falls into region 10, which also included schools from Drum-mond, Waukomis, Hennessey, Lahoma, Guthrie, Crescent, Okarche and Kremlin. The 2009 Scripps Central Oklahoma Spelling It! Bee consisted of students from fifth- through eighth-grade.

Seventh-grader Kayla Albert of Weatherford, who won the 2009 Scripps Central Oklahoma Spelling It! Bee, and eighth-grader Hannah Cassidy of Perkins, who won the Tulsa version, will represent Oklahoma during Bee Week in Washington, D.C., in May.
