Lamont Spring Festival events on tap for today

Lamont Spring Festival will wrap up today at town hall.

An Oklahoma Blood Institute blood drive is 4-8 p.m. Saturday’s entertainment will be magician and mentalist Magical Michael. Saturday’s meal will be sponsored by 4-H and FFA Booster Club.

There will be booths displaying a variety of items.

Lamont’s townwide garage sale will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16. There will be no fees and no maps. Participants must put up their own signs. Contact Lucille Stowers for information.



School



The state FFA convention will be Tuesday and Wednesday.

Deer Creek-Lamont National Honor Society’s play, “Life of the Party,” will be 6:30 p.m. Friday in the old gym.

Pre-kindergarten students participated in an Easter egg hunt April 9 sponsored by NHS. Jill Hobbs and Morgan Thompson hid the egg. Pre-kindergarten students participating were Adriahna Blackburn, Kyler Brooks, Palladin Compala, Thomas Crain Jr., Makayla Dirham, Ryan Vanaman and Caleb Webster.

The high school track teams participated April 13 in a meet in Tonkawa. The girls team placed fifth.

Individuals placing were; Janise Blanton, second, and Jill Hobbs, fifth in the 200; Janise Blanton, first, and Jill Hobbs, sixth, in the 400; Lindsey Campbell, fourth, in the 1,600; Rachel Kirby, sixth, in the 300 hurdles; Jill Hobbs, Janise Blanton, Rachel Kirby and Lindsey Campbell, third in the 1,600 relay; Jill Hobbs, second, in the long jump; Lindsey Campbell, fifth, in the high jump; and Janise Blanton, third, in the pole vault.

The boys team placed third.

Individuals placing were: Landon Tingley, sixth, in the 200; Levi Reese, second, in the 400; Elliot Muegge, Landon Tingley, Eli Reese and Levi Reese, first, in the 400 relay; Connor Kirby, Landon Tingley, Eli Reese and Levi Reese, third, in the 1,600 relay; Derek Dowell, Jacob Blanton, Connor Kirby and Chad Mendenhall, fourth, in the 3,200 relay; Levi Reese, first, in the high jump; and Eli Reese, first, in the pole vault.

The boys also won track meets at Ringwood and Newkirk. Eli Reese set the meet record of 15 feet in the pole vault at Ringwood.

Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse in Enid brought a portable planetarium to the school in Lamont.

Bob Killam, resident astronomer for Leonardo’s and Northern Oklahoma College Enid observatory, presented several views of a night sky, along with a discussion of astronomical terms and explanations of the constellations.

Students crawled into an air-inflated dome, and the stars were projected on the dome surface.
