NEW: Businesses taking donations for fire victims

Staff reports

Local businesses are starting collections to benefit the fire victims in Midwest City and central Oklahoma.

Northcutt Toyota, 3201 W. Owen K. Garriott, is opening its doors to accept donations for the Midwest City Fire Relief Fund.

“The American Red Cross is taking money to go to Midwest City. We put it up on our light sign and we are hanging up a banner. Northcutt Toyota is a drop site for Midwest City Fire Relief,” said Scott Northcutt, owner and general manager of Northcutt Toyota.

Northcutt is accepting donations of any type.

“We are taking donations of anything and everything: Clothes, toys, water. We will take checks made out the American Red Cross. We will load it up and take it down there. We've had three or four people inquiring already about bringing things out,” said Northcutt. “We just want people to know Northcutt Toyota is a drop point for the Midwest City Relief fund,” said Northcutt.

Josh Rutherford, owner of Hometown Thrift and Storage, 2121 N. Grand, plans to take an 18-foot trailer full of donations to the Feed the Children organization, which is also organizing to help the wildfire victims. Rutherford said he is also taking donations of any type, including nonperishable food items, bottled water, paper products and toiletries.

“If people want to donate clothing or furniture, that’s fine,” he said.

Rutherford said he will take donations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Monday.
