Program helps low-income residents get prescriptions

The Rx for Oklahoma program is a free service helping low-income residents access prescription-assistance programs provided by pharmaceutical companies.

Since its inception in December 2005, more than 21,000 people across the state have received free or low-cost prescriptions through the program.

Staff members provide assistance in completing applications and submitting proper documentation to pharmaceutical companies. Prescriptions are mailed either directly to the applicant or to the physician for dispensing. The process takes approximately one month, so only long-term medications qualify for this program.

Rx for Oklahoma is a state-funded program offered by community action agencies across northwest Oklahoma, including Community Development Support Association in Enid and Opportunities Inc. in Watonga. CDSA serves Garfield and Grant County, (580) 242-7928; and Opportunities Inc. serves Cimarron, Texas, Beaver, Harper, Ellis, Alfalfa, Woodward, Woods, Dewey, Blaine, Major and Kingfisher counties, (405) 375-6877.

“The cost of life-saving medication can be daunting for families who do not have access to insurance coverage. Rx for Oklahoma helps people to receive the medications they need when they would otherwise not be able to afford them,” said Cheri Ezzell, CDSA executive director.
