Vance Air Force Base will host the 2008 Area Six Special Olympics today, beginning at 9 a.m. with opening ceremon-ies.
This year there will be more than 250 Special Olym-pians between the ages 8 and 82 from Grant, Garfield and Kay counties participating in the day’s activities.
Competitions will be held in track, field and wheelchair athletics. Track events range from the wheelchair races and 25-meter walk to the one-mile run. Field events include the shot put, softball throw, safety javelin and the long jump.
Officials said Team Vance and the community have come together to ensure a memorable day of competition, camaraderie and fun for the athletes.
