Legal Aid Services will staff office with a full-time attorney

— Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma is opening an office in Enid, which will be staffed by a full-time attorney.
This new office, supported by Garfield County Bar Association and other community groups, will allow low-income and elderly clients to be served here instead of driving to Stillwater.
Legal Aid is a not-for-profit law firm offering free civil legal services to low-income and elderly people in certain areas, including safety, food, housing and source of income, or who have an emergency, such as a court hearing or an impending eviction.
Many cases accepted by Legal Aid offices across the state involve domestic violence, eviction, wrongful denial of unemployment benefits and Social Security disability and consumer scams. Applicants for Legal Aid’s services must be U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents or people married to U.S. citizens who have applied for residency and not been rejected.
Funding for Legal Aid comes from Legal Services Corp., Oklahoma Legal Service Revolving Fund and support from private attorneys, law firms, organizations and individuals.
