EPS board to decide on hiring of superintendent

— The superintendent search could be over tonight, when Enid school board members meet in executive session to discuss the hiring of a new superintendent.
On March 14, the district publicly named Shawn Hime, an assistant superintendent at Oklahoma State Department of Education, as their choice to become the next leader of Enid Public Schools, three days after voting to enter into contract negotiations with him.
Enid Public Schools Board of Education will meet at 7 tonight at the district’s central office, 500 S. Independence.
Hime is assistant superintendent for financial services at Oklahoma State Department of Education. If approved, he will be the 12th superintendent in the district’s 114-year history. If hired, he will succeed Kem Keithly, who announced in December he was retiring at the end of the school year after 24 years as Enid superintendent.
The board also will discuss the re-employment of district administrators, including Central Office staff and building principals.
In other business, the board will discuss:
• Contracts with Alvarado Quality Services LLC, for contact mowing services districtwide, and YardPro for a five-step fertilizer and weed treatment program for school district lawns.
• The information booklet for the 4-year-old program for the 2008-2009 school year.
• The retirements of Sheryl Duoma, computer applications at Waller Junior High School, after 35 years, 26 in the district; and Bertha Innis, library media specialist at Waller, after 421⁄2 years, 13 of those at Waller.
• The resignation of Penelope Miller, third grade at Adams Elementary School.
There also will be a presentation by the Greater Enid Arts & Humanities Council about Thinkfinity/ArtsEdge Arts Integration Program.
