Northern Oklahoma Development Authority Area Agency on Aging’s ombudsman program is presenting a free volunteer training session 12:30-5 p.m. March 26 and March 27 at Watonga Wheatheart Nutrition Site, 212 N. Spiece.
Volunteers will be trained and certified by the state to visit a long-term care facility in their area. They are needed in all eight counties NODA serves in northern Oklahoma: Gar-field, Alfalfa, Grant, Major, Blaine, Kingfisher, Noble and Kay.
Ombudsman volunteers will receive two days of training, agree to visit long-term residents at a specified nursing home two hours a week, advocate for the resident’s rights when necessary, attend a brief monthly meeting for on-going training and fill out a monthly report.
Reservations for the training session are appreciated but not required. Those interested can call LaJean Kirby at 237-2236 or (800) 749-1149.
