Project for elementary school encourages fitness and health

By Brittany Bisel Ringwood correspondent

Ringwood FCCLA members Kelsey Richert and Emily Buller planned and executed a health and fitness project for Ringwood Elementary School during the week of Feb. 19-22.

A variety of activities were planned to promote having fun with fitness and encouraging healthy diets. The fitness activities were carried out during elementary physical education classes.

Richert and Buller demonstrated jazzercise, a “Sharks and Islands” game and the cha cha slide.

To encourage healthy diets, Ringwood FCCLA invited elementary students into the FACS department to learn about the food guide pyramid. At each snack station, the children were able to sample healthy snacks from each of the food groups.

------------

Ringwood High School academic teach won the conference academic championship March 8 at the Cherokee Strip academic tournament at Northern Oklahoma College Enid.

All teams participating played a total of five games. Ringwood won all five games, beating Lomega 260-180, Wakita 300-150, Burlington 250-130, Cherokee 340-120 and Timberlake 210-160. Conrad Rice was named to the all-conference team. Other team members were Emily Buller, Destinee Schroeder, Michael Hiebert, Mark Mason and Josh Conaway.

------------

The high school baseball team will play at Medford at 4:30 p.m. March 28.

------------

The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade scholastic meet at Ringwood will be March 29.
