A portion of U.S. 412 in Enid was closed for more than an hour Tuesday after workers on the Garriott widening project broke a gas line.
“The construction crew on West Garriott accidentally struck a gas line, cutting it,” Enid Police Department Capt. Dean Grassino said.
A portion of the four-lane road in the 1600 block of West Garriott closed at 11:17 a.m. and reopened at 12:49 p.m., Grassino said.
Emergency crews re-sponded, and the line was capped, he said. No injuries were reported.
Grassino said the line cut was next to the roadway and leaking gas, causing police to close that portion of West Garriott for public safety.
The Garriott widening project began Jan. 7 and includes widening Garriott from Taylor to Johnson.
The project will widen Garriott 7 feet on each side to add a center turning lane from Taylor to Johnson.
The entire length of Garriott in that area is being reconstructed with concrete.
Dobson Brothers Construction, of Lincoln, Neb., is the project contractor and was selected by Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
