DCLA competes in music contest

Deer Creek-Lamont High School and junior high vocal departments competed in the district music contest Feb. 24 in Alva.

Those receiving superior and excellent ratings were:

High school mixed chorus, superior.

Tenor-bass ensemble, superior. Members were Kayl Tingley, Jacob Stockwell, Elliot Muegge, Miguel Gonzales, C. J. Hatcher, Kolby Tebow, Chad Mendenhall, Andrew Coufal, Derek Dowell and Brenan Hutton.

Treble ensemble, excellent. Members were Kassy Chartier, Janise Blanton, Carly Metcalf, Jillian Hobbs, Morgan Hamm, Samantha Golay, Lydia Looper, Courtney Kirby, Arian Hutton, Morgan Thompson, Camille Krehbiel and Laura Reynolds.

Mixed ensemble, excellent. Members were Kassy Chartier, Janise Blanton, Kolby Tebow, Kayl Tingley, Morgan Hamm, Laura Reynolds, Sarah Coufal, Carly Metcalf, Jacob Stockwell, Chad Mendenhall, Courtney Kirby and Samantha Golay.

Mixed duet, excellent. Morgan Hamm and Elliot Muegge.

Solos — Kassy Chartier, superior; Kolby Tebow, superior ;and Lydia Looper, excellent.

Other choir members who performed in the high school mixed chorus were Alexia Pennington, Jacob Blanton, Lindsey Campbell, Breanna Holland, Connor Kirby, Landon Tingley, Kayde Chartier, Wade Perry, Rachel Kirby, Levi Reese, Spencer Reese, Kolton Schuelein, Hunter Whitehead, Mindy Blaser, Halli Hodges, Resa Navarro, Derric Richards, Kristan Travis, Morgan Collins, Trisha Loveall, Sabree Meade, Eli Reese and Kyleen Stocking.

Junior high mixed chorus, superior.

Seventh- and eighth-grade mixed ensemble, superior. Members were Tara Fredrick, Bennet Shipley, Katy Starr, Katherine Muegge, Lawson Thompson, Clint Tolle, Haley Stacy, Karen Golay, Marian Muegge, Ariel Warrior, Jacob Hamm and Jace Whitehead.

Seventh- and eighth-grade treble ensemble, excellent. Members were Haley Stacy, Tara Fredrick, Ariel Warrior, Marian Muegge, Shelby McKee, Karen Golay, Bennet Shipley, Katy Starr and Katherine Muegge.

Other choir members who performed in the junior high chorus were Dalton Cunningham, Blake Hoemann, Jordan McCarson, Lane Williams, Savanna Hodges, Christian Looper and Brittany Webster.

All high school solos and groups receiving a superior qualified for the state music contest, which will be April 23 at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.

The elementary school sent in $105.50 worth of Box Tops For Education coupons.

Fourth-graders will be at Turkey Creek School in Enid 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

DCLA yearbooks are on sale now. Cost is $30. All yearbooks will include a DVD. Orders must be made by March 27. Cost may be paid in installments as long as the total is paid by April 28. A down payment of $10 is required with each order. Orders can be made to Mrs. Wilkerson at the high school, or to any classroom teacher in the elementary school. Cherokee Strip Conference basketball honors have been announced. Girls on the all-conference team were Janise Blanton and Jill Hobbs. Honorable mention were Rachel Kirby and Lindsey Campbell. Making the all-conference boys team was Eli Reese. Honorable mention was Justin Kirby.
