Cancer Support Group meeting slated Feb. 26
Finding loving support for cancer patients and their caregivers will be the focus for the Feb. 26 meeting of Enid’s Cancer Support Group. The meeting will be 4-5:30 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway.
A “listening ministry” will be introduced, in which cancer patients or caregivers can talk with a person who has gone through similar experiences. For example, a woman in her 40s with breast cancer, might like to talk with another woman who has gone through breast cancer treatment, said the Rev. Don Johnson, associate pastor of Central Christian. Similarly, a man taking care of his wife, who is struggling with advanced cancer, might like to talk with another man who helped his wife and family deal with these difficult times.
“With cancer patients and their caretakers, each month brings its own set of challenges and opportunities,” said John-son, who also is facilitator of the community cancer support group that meets monthly.
Each month, Central Christian Church hosts a meeting for cancer patients, cancer survivors, their families and caregivers. Meetings are designed for spiritual support, outreach and education to those facing cancer. Johnson encourages anyone with a cancer diagnosis, or who is caring for a cancer patient, to join the support group. For information about the group, contact the church at 233-1214 or Johnson at 402-2612.
