2 city commissioner seats, area school board posts up for election today

By Robert Barron, Staff Writer

Enid voters in two wards will go to the polls today to elect their city commissioners.

Residents in four county school districts also will vote on either school board candidates or a bond issue.

In Enid, residents in Wards 3 and 4 will decide their city commissioners. In Ward 3, candidates are Lewis Blackburn, M. Ivan Dickey and Boomer Appleman. Incumbent commissioner Larry Dillon resigned in January to take the city manager’s position in McLoud.

In Ward 4, candidates are Andrew D. Ritchie, incumbent Loyd Kaufman Sr. and Gary L. James.

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Only voters in those two wards will cast ballots. Ward 3 is mainly in east Enid, while Ward 4 covers much of northeast Enid.

In the event no candidate receives a majority of the vote, a runoff between the top two voter-getters will be April 7.

In school board races around the county:

• Pond Creek-Hunter features candidates Mary K. Coats, Narda Hoover and Jeff Scott.

• Waukomis voters will decide between Justin LaMunyon, Darla Eckhardt and Brenda Moody.

• Kremlin-Hillsdale voters will chose between Michael Parrish and Paula Olmstead.

• Drummond voters will decide between Elaine E. Epps and John C. Otto.

Mulhall-Orlando Public Schools, which includes a portion of Garfield County, is asking voters for a $495,000 bond issue for construction, equipment, remodeling, furniture, fixtures and equipment. The bonds will be at 10 percent for 10 years.
