Four chaplains memorial service was held in Lamont

Four chaplains memorial service was Feb. 1 at the American Legion Hut in Lamont.

Welcome was by Harold Lutes, followed by the national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. Invocation was by Walton. Special music was by the Rev. Scott Heusel singing “I Stand Amazed.” He also gave the memorial address.

Lutes gave special recognition to Gladys Osborne. Taps was by Ariel Warrior, followed with the benediction by the Rev. Vera Walton. Refreshments followed the service. The message was “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

School

Deer Creek-Lamont 4-H regular meetings scheduled for Saturday, March 7 and April 4 have been cancelled. The Relay for Life dinner scheduled for March 8 also is cancelled.

Upcoming events for 4-H include:

• Sunday, work day at the ag barn to get ready for local livestock show.

• Feb. 22, local livestock show at the ag barn in Lamont. 4-H/FFA Booster Club fundraising meal and FFA labor auction.

• Feb. 26-28, Grant County Livestock Show at Pond Creek, with a barbecue meal at the fairgrounds prior to the premium sale.

Lunch for the labor auction will be noon Feb. 22, with the auction at 1:30 and the local livestock show at 3. Lunch menu will include chili, ham and beans, cornbread and all the condiments. Cost is by donations.

Deer Creek-Lamont homecoming was Jan. 30 with Justin Kirby crowned king and Camille Krehbiel crowned queen. Crown bearer was Tace Bellin, and flower girl was Albany Blackburn.

District basketball tournament will start Thursday in Lamont.

DCLA girls will play Braman at 8 p.m. On Friday, DCLA boys will play Shidler at 8 p.m.

Junior high regional quiz bowl will be 12:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in Kremlin.

Pre-kindergarten students will take a trip Feb. 17 to Ponca City.

Oklahoma Blood Institute will be at the old gym 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 18 for a blood drive.

There will be school Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.

------------

Barry Bachman placed third on all three tests (social studies, math and current events) Feb. 3 at Chisholm scholastic contest.

He was one of five fifth- and sixth-graders who attended.
