Waukomis police, county sheriff's deputies arrest 5 at motel

By Robert Barron Staff Writer

Waukomis police and Garfield County Sheriff’s deputies seized nearly 24 grams of marijuana, 8 grams of methamphetamines, unidentified pills, pipes, scales, $329 in currency and two vehicles during a series of drug arrests Sunday.

Arrested were Adam Tweety, Angela Nelson, Louis Reese, Steve Michaels and Troy Michaels. Tweety and Nelson were arrested on complaints of possession of controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Garfield County Undersheriff Jerry Niles said the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation. They still are looking for others who are believed to be part of a network of “users and dealers,” according to Niles.

The drug bust began about 10:30 a.m. Sunday and concluded about 3 p.m.

Waukomis police, assisted by Garfield County deputies served search warrants at the Country Inn Motel in Waukomis seeking a wanted suspect and suspected narcotics. Two suspects were observed leaving a motel room and were stopped on driving charges by Waukomis police. A search of the car revealed packaged crystal methamphetamines, marijuana and paraphernalia. They were booked into the county jail on a complaint of possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Reese was arrested on an outstanding Garfield County warrant.

Steve and Troy Michaels were booked for possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Officers searched the suspected motel room and found traces of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a radio scanner turned to local law enforcement frequencies.

During the investigation a cell phone belonging to Nelson rang and was answered by officers, who text messaged the individuals and asked them to come to the room. From that phone call Troy and Steve Michaels and Reese were arrested. Reese attempted to escape, but was apprehended in the parking lot, according to the report.

“Who would have thought that on Super Bowl Sunday the police and sheriff’s office would be out working? We decided to go ahead and do it,” Niles said.
