Goody’s Family Clothing will close its store in Sunset Plaza on March 31.
Kristin Alm, public relations manager for Goody’s, said routine evaluations showed the Enid store wasn’t “performing as well” as other stores in the retail chain. The decision to close the store was made earlier in January.
Alm said company officials have no plans to re-evaluate the situation and reopen a Goody’s in Enid. Employees will be given the opportunity to transfer to another location. Goody’s has 13 other stores in Oklahoma, in Ada, Altus, Ardmore, Bartlesville, Chickasha, Duncan, Durant, Lawton, McAlester, Mus-kogee, Ponca City, Stillwater and Tahlequah.
According to Alm, no other Oklahoma locations are closing.
Goody’s store management in Enid declined to comment.
The business moved to its current location in Sunset Plaza in November 2002. Goody’s first location in Enid was in Oakwood Mall, when it opened its doors in November 1999.
Nicholas Real Estate owns Sunset Plaza, but calls Monday seeking comment were not returned.
Goody’s officials announced Jan. 16 they had received $65 million in investor funding. Goody’s, based in Knoxville, Tenn., has 378 stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
