Wildcats to play in Skeltur

Covington-Douglas Public Schools basketball homecoming was Friday prior to the game against Kremlin-Hillsdale.

Covington-Douglas Wildcats hosted Ringwood Red Devils Saturday.

The Wildcats will participate in the Skeltur Tournament this week in Enid. They will play Garber at 6:20 p.m. Monday and the Lady Cats will play Pioneer at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Covington-Douglas students entered the local Elks Hoop Shoot contest Jan. 10 in Enid. Those receiving trophies were Trinitie Fleeson, third place, in the 8- to 9-year-old category; Megan Drake, first place, 10- to 11-year-old; and Calli Kaiser, first place, 12- to 13-year-old.

Drake and Kaiser advanced in their age divisions to Northwest District Hoop Shoot, which was held Saturday.

Others from Covington-Douglas entering the Free Throw Competion were Gavin Smith, 8- to 9-year-old; Hunter Carl, 10- to 11-year-old; and Quenten Thayer, 12- to 13-year-old.

The Covington-Douglas Board of Education met Jan. 12.

The board voted to rehire Darren Sharp, superintendent of Covington-Douglas School, awarding him a 5 percent raise in salary and allowing him to use carryover vacation within 30 days.

The board appointed Pam Allen adjunct teacher for one hour of high school band.

A motion passed to consult architect Roy Easley concerning the design of the purposed ag facility.

Terry and Debbie Watson recently opened the Convience Store in Covington, which had been closed for a while. The Watsons, who moved from Waynoka, originally are from South Africa.
