The fifth- through eighth-grade Covington-Douglas basketball teams will play Monday at Garber and Thursday at Cimarron. Games start at 4:30 p.m.

The high school basketball teams play Tuesday at Pioneer. Games start at 6:30 p.m.

Basketball homecoming will be Friday, prior to the games against Kremlin-Hillsdale at 6:30 p.m.

The high school academic area meet will be Saturday at Garber.
Community
First Bank and Trust held a bike giveaway prior to Christmas. Winners of the bikes were Haley Postier and Dalton Jordan.
The bank held its annual Christmas open house last month. Jean Beeby’s art class made jar candle holders for the center pieces. Students contributing were Nick Phillips, Luke Postier, Brian Winters, Kerry Storm, Josh Storm, Brandan Neundorf, Jeff Carpenter, Destiny Crews, Westin Finke, Dakota McClogin, April Smith and Laci Lairmore. Winners of the door prizes were poinsettia, Kennith and Viva Nida; savings bond, Aaron Cassody; fresh Christmas wreath, Pam Peacock; First Bank and Trust Visa card, Wanda Rink.

A community gathering was Dec. 20 in Covington.
American Legion winners of half a hog each were Gerald Pope and Cindy Bell.
In the turkey drawing, winners were Beverly Bigbey, Louise Tolbert, Shelley Loesch, Peggy Arend, Evie Knouse, Melvin Carter, Cade Boepple, Raymond Kaiser, Mary Wyssman, Pat Phillips, Jessica Kyhendall, Barbara Johnson, Calton Casteel, Christy Anglemyer, Serena Smith, Roy Wagner, Donna Bigbey, Debbie Tiggerman, Amy Fowble and Steven Avery.

Home and School Club met Jan. 6 at the Senior Center. Pat Powers reported buying two presents for names on the Angel Tree.
Members paid dues for the coming year. Everyone signed up for a month to be hostess. Pat Powers won the hostess gift.
Church
St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold its annual voters meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday. A covered-dish meal will be served prior to the meeting at 5:45.
