Cancer support group to meet Thursday

January 09, 2009 10:38 pm

Finding hope and peace in the New Year is this month’s focus for the meeting of Enid’s Cancer Support Group.
The meeting will be 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway.
“In many instances, after the holidays are over, a certain despair can set in,” said the Rev. Don Johnson, associate pastor of Central Christian and facilitator of the community-wide cancer support group. “With cancer patients and their caretakers, the new year brings its own set of challenges and opportunities. Through our faith, we can find hope and peace to overcome these challenges and take advantage of the opportunities.
“We want to make our January meeting a time to reflect on the blessings of the past year and plan ways to lift each other up in the coming year.”
Ideas on educational programs to present will be discussed.
Each month, Central Christian Church opens it facilities to cancer patients, cancer survivors, their families and caregivers. Monthly meetings are designed for education, spiritual support and outreach. Johnson said the group is open to anyone with a cancer diagnosis, family members of people who are cancer survivors or undergoing treatment.
