Couple charged in meth lab case

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

A couple Garfield County Sheriff’s office deputies found Tuesday night allegedly with an active meth lab were charged Thursday in district court.

Gregory Lynn Woods, 54, and Norma Jean Woods, 47, both were charged with felony manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance.

Because the state alleges a 2000 drug trafficking conviction, Gregory faces a possible sentence of 10 years to life. Norma faces a possible sentence of seven years to life in prison and a fine of no less than $50,000.

When deputies served a search warrant Tuesday at 1223 W. Elm, the odor of an active meth lab was present, according to an affidavit.

When deputies questioned Gregory, he admitted to cooking meth at the home and said he had done so two or three times a week for the past two years, the affidavit states.

Gregory also told deputies he used red phosphorus, and other chemicals, in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, the affidavit states.

Inside the home, deputies found chemicals used in the production of meth, coffee filters with chemical residues, plastic containers with tubing coming out of them and meth in tin foil, according to the affidavit.

During an interview at the jail Wednesday, Gregory again admitted to using the chemicals found in the home to make meth, officals said.

Norma admitted to smoking meth at the residence during an interview Wednesday, but she said Gregory had not always cooked meth at the residence, officials said.

Gregory’s bond was set at $30,000, and Norma’s was set at $15,000. Both were ordered to appear in court again Feb. 21 for a bond appearance.
