LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Tuesday was time of surprises, it was a life-changing moment

November 08, 2008 10:36 pm

Tuesday morning, Nov. 4th, was a time of surprises, some good and some not so good. Tuesday is our day for trash pickup. As we looked out to the curb, we could see dogs had gotten into the trash and it was scattered everywhere. My daughter had to leave to bring her husband home from the hospital, so I started picking it up. As I did a car drove into the drive. A young man from the base, which I found out was a pilot, having graduated recently said, “I was driving by, saw what you were doing and I just couldn’t go on without stopping to help you.” Very nicely dressed in his uniform, he put on his gloves and went to work.
I explained why I was picking up the trash, and he asked what was wrong with my son-in-law. I told him he was having open heart surgery next week. His next words were, “I’ll be praying for him.” I will never forget this young man who cared enough to stop and help me and to leave with these words, “I’ll be praying for him.” This is just one of our precious young men from the base, and from now on every time a plane flies over our home, I’ll be reminded to pray not only for him but all those who are in training to become pilots at the base.
This has been such a blessing, and it stayed with me all through the day, and will for many more to come. I thank God for bringing him by at such a needed time.
