How privileged I am! Recently the youth, staff and volunteers of Central Christian Church presented an extraordinarily marvelous work of art “Godspell.” When Janet Jones announced they were going to produce this rock opera using the youth of our church, I had my doubts.
The production was magnificent. I knew the older youth would do all right. But I was not convinced my granddaughter, who is 12, and the children younger than her knew the arduous task at hand, the demands of memorization and the commitment it would require over on long haul.
How the youth came through! I have never been convinced the youth of our age are “going to hell in a hand basket.” Once again we heard from youth who have some positive role models and who were willing to assail a laborious task to overcome our skepticism and prove the quality of their lives.
If you missed this presentation, you missed a delightful evening. The youth (some as young as fourth grade) gave us a quality performance. They were accompanied by the music of the youth, the direction of Janet Jones, the leadership of Randy Johnson, and our very committed youth pastor, John Wheeler. Terri Galer joined in for some of the music, but for the most part the presentation was from the youth. Cheryl Swanson joined in to provide the backdrop scenery for the opera. Each one of you can be proud of yourself. And I thank you profusely for making the gospel available to us.
