Fitting right in

It’s fairly easy to discover places to work out in Enid

ENID — Area fitness centers and clubs offer a variety of equipment and classes to get hearts racing and provide a great cardiovascular workout.

Denny Price Family YMCA offers a smorgasborg of health for its members.

“We have 60 pieces of cardio equipment and those range from bikes to treadmills to pieces of equipment called cross trainers, or ellipticals, and stair climbers,” said

 

. “All of those provide a good cardiovascular workout.”

Boeckman said YMCA also offers an indoor walking track, racquet ball and a swimming pool for those looking for a cardio workout.

“We also have 50 group exercise classes a week that provide cardiovascular exercise,” she said.

Boeckman said a good cardiovascular workout can improve overall health.

“It decreases your risk of heart disease, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol,” she said. “It just increases your overall health.”

Megan Allen, general manager of Finer Physiques, said her fitness center offers a variety of equipment for cardiovascular workouts.

“We have treadmills, elliptical, stair climbers, we have rowers, recumbent bikes,” she said. “Pretty much if you’ve thought of it we’ve got it.”

Allen said the center has a “cardio theater” with flat-screen televisions. Each piece of equipment can tune to the frequency of one of the TVs that allows everyone to watch whatever he or she wishes.

She said there is a second cardio area in the back of the center for those who prefer more privacy during their workout.

“Our cardio equipment is available 24 hours a day,” Allen said.

As well as cardio equipment, Allen said the center offers classes seven days a week covering cardio workouts, including Zumba and a turbo-kick class. She said the center also has an outdoor workout center at Iron Works and offers a marathon running clinic.

“There’s really something for everybody,” she said. “Cardio is just one of the three pieces to an entire fitness puzzle. Cardio being one, strength training being second and flexibility being the third.”
