Recovery program addresses habits, hurts, hang-ups

Do you have a habit you just can’t break? Is there a hurt in your life that is keeping you from moving forward in your walk with Christ? Have you tried doing everything right and still find yourself in the same situation time and time again?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may want to consider attending Celebrate Recovery.

Celebrate Recovery (also known as CR) is a biblically based recovery program for men, women, teens and children that is centered on small group interaction and fellowship with a caring community.

According to Rick Warren, founder of Celebrate Recovery, this recovery program is different because it, “addresses all types of habits, hurts and hang-ups. Some recovery programs deal only with alcohol or drugs or another single problem. But Celebrate Recovery is a ‘large umbrella’ program under which a limitless number of issues can be dealt with.”

These issues can range from low self-esteem, grief, overeating, divorce, to alcohol and other types of addictions.

When I attended my first Celebrate Recovery meeting, and I spoke the words, “I am a grateful believer in Jesus Christ and I’m recovering from depression,” I looked around the room and I immediately knew I had connected with each woman.

For the first time in my life, I felt someone else understood. We all came from different backgrounds and have different issues we were dealing with. Some had been incarcerated, others have experienced addiction, abuse and divorce.

Yet, as I listened to each woman’s story, I began to understand what we all had in common. We have all been hurt and as a result our actions, have hurt others. We were at CR because we were looking for an answer to problems that lingered, despite our efforts to overcome them.

What I loved most about that first meeting was not one person in the group tried to fix me. Not one person said, “Read your Bible or pray more. Maybe you should try attending church more often.”

Although all those are good things, it was nice just to have someone listen. Celebrate Recovery is a place where you can be open with others and truly be yourself.

It is through Celebrate Recovery I have experienced the freedom available through the healing power of Jesus Christ. There are several active CR programs in the Enid area.
