Beta Sigma Phi sorority to hold Valentine event at Vance

Beta Sigma Phi will hold its annual Valentine’s dinner and dance Feb. 9 at Vance Air Force Base.

Queen candidates are:

• Stephanie Garis, Xi Delta Kappa, a 21-year member of Beta Sigma Phi. She is married to Charles Garis and has three children, Luke, Sara and Jacob. She is a math teacher at Emerson Middle School. She has held many offices in her chapter, as well as offices in city council. In her chapter, she has been president, vice president, treasurer and recording secretary. In city council, she has held the offices of treasurer and recording secretary.

• Amy Conrad, Preceptor Psi, who joined three years ago and is vice president of her chapter. She grew up in a military family. Her father is retired Air Force, and her husband, Roy, also retired from the Air Force 10 years ago. During her family’s time in the service, she held many offices in the Officers’ Spouses’ Club. She has been a member of First Baptist Church for 24 years. She and her husband have one son, Jonathan, who will be attending law school in August.

• Laura Durbin, Laureate Omega, is a pledge in the chapter. She moved to Enid from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, three years ago with her husband, Andy, and their two children, Luke and Katie. She does medical billing from home for her Iowa employer.

• Sophia Befort, Pi Master, joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1960. She has served in several capacities as an officer and currently is treasurer of the chapter. She graduated from Enid High School in May 1960 and worked for Central National Bank & Trust Co. for 42 years, retiring in January 2007. She also volunteered several years at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She is a charter member of Downtown Enid AMBUCS and served as officer of the club. She is a life member, was District 5-B governor and served on the national scholarship committee for four years. She is involved with the AMBUCS AmTryke program.

She and her husband, Robert, were married in June 1964. They have two children, Stephanie and Greg.
