Sage Sunderland, a 17-year old Alva High School junior, has been named Miss Tulsa County’s Outstanding Teen 2013.
The pageant was held at Tulsa Community College.
One of 11 contestants vying for the statewide title, Sunderland performed a twirling routine to Blake Shelton’s “Footloose,” as choreographed by Katie Ferguson of Northwest Stampede. All contestants also participated in four additional rounds of competition, including personal interview with the judges, on-stage question, overall fitness and evening wear.
Sunderland also was presented the crowd pleaser award.
As Miss Tulsa County’s Outstanding Teen 2013, Sunderland will advance to the Miss Oklahoma Pageant to compete in Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen. The pageant will be June 5-7, and 34 young women from across the state will compete for scholarships, cash prizes and the opportunity to advance to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant. Her platform is “Saving One More,” awareness and prevention of suicide.
Sunderland previously was named Miss Northwest Passage Young Miss and Oklahoma’s Miss Cinderella and also has participated in Miss Oklahoma’s Oklahoma Star program for several years. She is the daughter of Ron and Terri Sunderland, of Alva, and granddaughter of Bill and Loretta Sunderland, of Woodward.
