Friendship Day dinner is May 10 at Grayson Baptist Church

ENID, Okla. — The women of Grayson Baptist Church will prepare the May Friendship Day dinner on May 10.

Reservations should be called in to Gwenette Williams at 237-7901 by Sunday. The dinner will be at 6 p.m. May 10 at Grayson Baptist, 334 E. Garriott.

“Swinging Wide Doors of Hospitality” worship service will be lead by the women of University Place Christian Church. Church Women United has a long history of inviting women of diverse races, cultures and traditions to draw together into a Christian fellowship.

The Fellowship of the Least Coin is collected at this celebration. Shanti Solomon of India had a door closed to her and turned the experience into opening doors of reconciliation, justice and peace around the world.

This year’s key women, Peggy Schaeffer and Thelma Smith, will be honored during the evening celebration.

Schaeffer is a member of Christian Women Fellowship Executive Board.

“She is always the first to volunteer for a bake sale, baking and working the sale, as well as doing whatever else is asked of her,” said Dee Smith, president of Central Christian Church Women.

Schaeffer has been a liaison between CWU and CWF at Central Christian Church for 15 years.

Smith has been a member at New Hope United Methodist since its inception in 1996, and prior to that at St. Luke’s United Methodist.

“Thelma has been the church financial secretary, as well as serving on the trustees, the Building Committee and, of course, United Methodist Women,” said Debbie Hart. “Quite often she is the first person at the church for a meeting or service, and then takes food by to members who were unable to attend due to health.”
