Each of us matters to God

The thing about life is we have very little control over anything. It’s when we think we are in control things get out of hand.

Realizing we aren’t in control is what God keeps trying to teach us. He has to show us over and over, because it takes a while for us to figure things like that out.

We aren’t the brightest people you know. We’re the reason they put warning labels on hemorrhoid cream.

I thought I was in control for a really long time. I had it so together nothing was ever out of place. And, you know what, that’s exactly how I ended up in the hospital, not once, but three times.

If you want to know how to stay out of a place like that, throw your hands up in the air right now, and quit. Quit trying to be everything to everybody. Then, later, when your children are fast asleep, get before your daddy God and ask Him to help you be the kind of mom that’s not so perfect, but loves her kids and her husband like crazy.

I believe God wants you to know He created you in a very special way. He had your husband and your children in mind when He designed you. You were made just for them.

He knew they would need a mom who could see past a chocolate-covered face and see something beautiful. He knew your husband would need a wife who knew just what to say when he had a rough day at work. He loves your imperfections the way you love your son’s gap between his teeth, or your daughter’s birthmark the shape of Florida.

God loves you more than you can imagine. If you are a single mom, God has extra grace for you. He has great plans for that kid of yours that you’re always worried about. Don’t think for a second what you do doesn’t matter.

It all matters.

Every diaper you change, every dirty face you wipe, and every Cheerio you sweep off the floor matters.

And, just imagine, God chose you, with all your imperfections, to do the most important job on Earth. One day, your children will grow up and they won’t remember whether you fed them cheap hot dogs or served dinner on paper plates.

They’ll remember without a doubt you loved them completely and unconditionally.

Someone once said, “To have a child is to forever have your heart go walking outside your body.”

Maybe your heart is short and bald, or a curly haired 3-year-old in a pair of rain boots. My heart does cartwheels and sings off-key to Taylor Swift. And, I love her to the moon and back.

Blessings.

“But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.” — Exodus 9:16
