Carrier church adds monthly evening worship service

Carrier Congregational Church of United Church of Christ, 204 N. Fifth, has added a monthly worship service at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. The next service will be Feb. 16. Communion is offered at each monthly service.

The  regular service is 11 a.m. with a study in the Hebrews.

“We have several members whose work keeps them from being able to attend Sunday morning worship, and I thought maybe some others might be glad to know an evening service is available,” Pastor Richard Mize said. “I don’t know of many mainline churches that have Sunday evening services. Now we do, at least once a month.”

Carrier Congregational, founded in 1894, is in its 120th year of ministry and worship.

“We invite you to experience Christianity as a way of life, not a set of creeds and doctrines demanding total agreement, looking to Scripture, faith, tradition and reason — interpreted by love,” the church says on its website at www.carrierucc.com.

“We believe in liberty of conscience, the responsibility of believers to work out their salvation, and the obligation of faithful men and women to become partners with God in building the kingdom. We take the Bible seriously, not literally and believe that the church must be welcoming to all persons. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”
