Beta Sigma Phi dinner set for Saturday

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s Beta Sigma Phi chapters will honor their Valentine Queens at a dinner Saturday.

Honorees are:

Stephanie Garis, Xi Delta Kappa chapter. She is married to Charles Garis and has three children: Luke, who works for the Enid News & Eagle; Sara, who is a senior at Oklahoma State University; and Jacob, who is a freshman at Oklahoma State University.

Garis is a math teacher at Emerson Middle School. She has held many offices in her chapter as well as offices in city council. In her chapter, she has been president, vice president, treasurer and recording secretary. In city council, she has been treasurer and recording secretary. She has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 21 years.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family.

Merry Lee Nafus, Preceptor Psi. She joined Omicron chapter in 1977. She also has been a member of Xi Delta Kappa and Preceptor Zeta chapters. Currently serving as treasurer, she has held every office throughout the years. Nafus also is active in the community and currently serves on the board of directors for Gaslight Theatre.

She and her husband, Steve, have two house rabbits, Rascal and Vixen. She retired from Central National Bank in June 2001. She and Steve own Buck’s Wine & Spirits and Buck’s Party Shop & Sunshine Balloons. Another house rabbit, Dustbunny, lives at the store.

In her spare time, Merry Lee enjoys reading, movies and having fun with her sorority sisters.

Carla Steelmon, Laureate Omega. She has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 30 years. She has held the offices of president, vice president and treasurer for the chapter and recording secretary for city council.

She has been married to Wendell for 40 years. They have two children, Wyley Steelmon, Ponca City, and Dr. Carrie Chastain, Enid.

She works at her daughter’s dental office, and enjoys camping and boating with family, including their four grandchildren.

Sharon Franklin, Pi Master. She is a 25-year member of Beta Sigma Phi and recently received her master degree. She has held every office and nearly every committee chairmanship at the chapter and city council levels over the years.

Franklin and her husband, Paul Dean, have two Schnauzers, Pistol and Annie, still living at home, and they share five children and five grandchildren.

They are retired and enjoy working outdoors and occasionally traveling. Franklin is an avid scrapbooker and card maker and enjoys scrapbooking for those who don’t have the time to do their own, and making all-occaion cards for interested parties.
