Quilt guild to host appraiser

ENID, Okla. — Members of the Pioneer Area Quilter’s Guild are welcoming Carol Elmore, an AQS-certified appraiser of quilted textiles, to the meeting on June 3 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1904 N. Pecan.

Elmore is presenting “Going to the Dogs.” She has been making quilts for 30-plus years and gives lectures on quilt history, including one her husband calls “The Life and Quilts of Ida Stover Eisenhower,” appraising, and collecting (especially textiles featuring dogs.)

She also lectures on the history of aprons using examples from her collection of over 50 aprons. She does workshops on quilt dating, hand piecing, and making Scottie block quilt collectibles.

Elmore is a librarian and has a master’s degree in library science. She works as a librarian at the Veterinary Medical Library at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan. She has given lectures and workshops in Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Arizona, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Nebraska. She also does quilt show judging and has judged in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.

Registration and social hours are 10:30 a.m. to noon. Hostesses for the June meeting are Lila Logan, Sue Witteman, Elaine Hughes, Mary Andrews, Julia Smith and Jacque Wagner.

The stitch-and-assist program will be presented by Elsie Campbell. She will demonstrate three different ways to make half-square triangles. Stitch and assist will begin at 10:30 and again at 11. The business meeting will begin at noon, followed by Show and Share, where members show their completed quilt projects. Elmore’s presentation will begin at 1.
