KUDOS/Gilliland

The Meno Volunteer Fire Department held it’s annual pancake and whole hog sausage supper on April 12. We would like to thank everyone that came out. We served over 550 people and raised over $6,800. It was the biggest supper attendance and money raised ever.

We would also like to thank all the people that make it possible. Thanks to the Ringwood Masons, Bergdall Propane, Harvest House Cafe, Meno Ampride, the Fairview Republican, the Enid News & Eagle, Meno Guaranty Bank, Chisholm Trail Broadcasting, 89.8 The House and 98.3 The Love Station, the Meno Boy Scouts and the Shoppers Edge for supporting us. Thanks to the Oklahoma Blood Institute for having their blood mobile set up for donations and thanks to the retired firefighters and their families that helped out as well.

And to the Meno and Ringwood community that came to the supper, we would really like to thank you for letting us continue to serve you as a fire department by your donation. We strive to do the best we can, and we hope that none of you will ever need our service. You made this a wonderful and joyful evening had by all.

We would also like to thank all that bought chances on the homemade quilt. However, we have not found the winner yet. So, if the ticket you have is number 789006, you have won! Call (580) 776-2544 and leave a message so we can get your prize to you. Thanks again.

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who pulled over on April 23 as we passed by. My husband passed and he was a disabled Vietnam veteran. As we passed, many more people did not observe and respect us than did. People need to remember that in this busy life a simple act of kindness and respect for someone they don’t even know can mean so much. It really touched my heart as those of you who did, stopped for us. I also want to thank Brown Cummings for their very sincere thoughtfulness and help in my time of grief. To those of us who were raised with manners and respect of others, you know of what I speak. To all of you that don’t take the time to think of others, maybe you will now that you realize what a simple gesture of respect can mean to someone. Manners are so important these days and we must not let that tradition die out. So, thank you and God Bless you for you respect. May God always hear you and may you always be listening.

We would like to thank Mike and Carolyn Watts for establishing the OAC Volleyball League at the Oakwood Activity Center. This league continues to offer girls from third grade to high school a chance to establish and practice volleyball skills. Many of these girls play on area school volleyball teams in the fall. This year over 150 girls participated in this league that continues to grow each year.

A special thanks also goes to Denise Lostlen as the league coordinator and coach of two teams. Other coaches deserving recognition are: Kevin Carmichael, Kendon Mulanex, Bud Heckman, Thomas Garis, Vinny Lostetter, Jacque Voth, Angie Garrett and Savannah Pinkley. These coaches have all volunteered their time two nights a week for the last 12 weeks to promote volleyball within our community. This is a wonderful opportunity for all girls to participate in the fastest growing girls sport in Oklahoma. Thanks again.
