ENID, Okla. —
(EDITOR'S NOTE: District report cards are now listed as "N/A," according to the State Department of Education website. The correct district grades will be released later this week, and today's district grades were incorrectly released by the department.
Statement from Tricia Pemberton, spokeswoman for the State Department of Education: “The district grades were not ready to be released today, that was completely my error. I thought we were releasing the district and site grades, and we were just releasing site grades today. The district grades will be ready to be released hopefully within a few days. Please ignore the district grade that you saw first, and that will be reposted within a few days.”
The following story was posted before the district grades were taken down off the SDE website. Some links may not be active.)
The 2013 A-F Report Cards for Oklahoma public school districts and individual schools were released Wednesday afternoon.
Overall grades for school districts in Garfield County are Waukomis, C; Kremlin-Hillsadale, C+; Chisholm, A; Garber, B; Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, B-; Enid, D+; Drummond, B-; and Covington Douglas, D.
Letter grades given to individual schools range from F to A+.
This is the second year the state has issued grade cards for districts and schools. The method of producing the grades has been amended from last year, the State Department of Education said in a press release.
In the second year of SDE issuing the report cards, 354 schools, or 20 percent, received an overall A. There were 499 schools, or 28 percent, earned an overall B; and 472 schools, or 26 percent, received C’s. That compares to last year’s total of 160 As, 842 Bs and 594 Cs.
There was also a significant rise in Ds and Fs, with 263 schools getting Ds and 163 schools receiving Fs. Statewide, 24 percent of schools got Ds or Fs. In 2012, the report cards recorded 138 Ds and 10 Fs.
More information will be in later editions of the Enid News & Eagle, in print and online.
