Grant County shooting death investigated as possible homicide

State and county law enforcement officers are investigating the shooting death of a Grant County woman as a possible homicide.

Grant County Sheriff Scott Sterling said at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday, Woods County 911 Center paged out Medford EMS and Wakita first responders to a report of a gunshot victim at a residence on Kiowa Road in Grant County.

Upon arrival, Sterling said medical personnel found a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. After an initial investigation, the scene was secured by Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies with assistance from Medford Police Department.

“Grant County authorities requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation with the investigation of a possible homicide scene,” Sterling said. “Currently, that investigation is still ongoing and facts are being gathered.”

The sheriff said it was circumstances found at the scene that prompted the call to OSBI. The name of the victim was not being released.
