Waukomis Sooner Celebration

All day Saturday


Join Waukomis this Saturday in celebrating the 59th annual Southwest Garfield County District Fair and Sooner Celebration in Mardi Gras style.

Events begin with registration for the 5K walk/run at 6 a.m. The fun run starts at 7:10, with the 5K beginning at 7:30.

Barn events will include a swine show at 7 a.m., beef show at 8, goat show at 9 and sheep show at 9:50 a.m. The horticulture, crop and poultry show will be at 12:30 p.m. in the ag room.

A variety of activities, including a horshoe pitching tournament and kids’ games start at 10:30 a.m. in ACB Bank of Waukomis parking lot.

Activities on Main Street will include a karate demonstration at 11 a.m., turtle races at noon, lawn mower poker run at 1:30 p.m., free watermelon at 3 p.m., parade at 4; car cruising and show at 6 p.m. to dark.

A lawn mower-pulling contest will be held north of the high school softball field at 4:30, and fireworks are planned at the high school field at dark.

Mack Motor Mania

Leonardo's Discovery Warehouse

Families can check out fire trucks, ambulances, farm equipment and more this Saturday at Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse’s fifth annual Mack Motor Mania.

The event will take place starting at 10 a.m. between 2nd and 3rd streets downtown and also at Adventure Quest and World Harvest Church parking lots.

Children and adults can get up close and personal with all sorts of big trucks. Title sponsor Enid Mack Sales will have a refurbished 1964 Mack truck on hand. Also, Southside Recycling will bring another take-apart car this year.

In addition to getting to see all the big trucks, lunch will be provided for the first 400 people. The event will conclude at noon with a parade of trucks honking their horns and flashing their lights.

Admission is $6 for non-members and $3 for members and is good for all-day access to the museum and Adventure Quest. Children younger than 2 get in free.
