GOP lawmaker criticizes GOP House speaker on web

OKLAHOMA CITY —

Republican state Representative Mike Reynolds of Oklahoma City has created a website criticizing Republican House Speaker T.W. Shannon of Lawton, questioning Shannon's official biography, his legislative record, work history and home ownership.

Reynolds told the Tulsa World that his website is intended to show that Shannon is not qualified to serve in the US Congress or as speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

The site offers no legal reason that would disqualify Shannon from either legislative body or position.

"My intent is to hold people that want to represent me accountable," Reynolds told the newspaper.

A note on the website states that Reynolds provided the information for the site "to allow the public to be fully informed."

He said Shannon has indicated that he plans to run for higher office.

Shannon has not publicly announced plans to run for another office.

"These are tired allegations by a representative who just continuously attacks people," Joe Griffin, a spokesman for Shannon, said Friday. "We have no comment."

Keith Gaddie, a University of Oklahoma political science professor, said Reynolds' latest efforts are nothing new for the Oklahoma City lawmaker.

"Ever since the first time Mike Reynolds voted against Republican leadership during his second term in the Legislature, he has been at odds with every presiding officer in the chamber," he said.

Reynolds said that Gaddie doesn't sit in the House on a daily basis and probably doesn't know what is going on. He said anyone who finds an error with the content of the website can contact him, and he will correct it.

Shannon was elected to the House in 2006 and was elected speaker in November 2012. Reynolds was first elected to the House in 2003.
