Disney, others doing a cool thing to raise money

A few entertainment news tidbits here and there ...

Want to shoot the breeze with Luke Skywalker?

Well, here’s your chance.

Disney, Lucasfilm and Bad Robot are parterning up for a fundraising effort through UNICEF. For every $10 you donate at Omaze.com/StarWars, you will be eligible to appear in the newest Star Wars film, “Star Wars: Episode VII.”

If you’re a Star Wars fan, this is a perfect way to give to a worthy organization, while at the same time, giving yourself the possibility for a dream come true.

UNICEF is an organization that works to enhance the lives of children in the face of poverty, violence, diseases and other obstacles. Further, UNICEF strives to make sure children are immunized against diseases, and that they have enough food.

The campaign, begun by “Episode VII” director J.J. Abrams, opened at midnight Wednesday and will continue up until midnight on July 18.

Abrams wasn’t specific about what kind of role you would get in the movie if you won, but you shouldn’t feel bad if you don’t; helping those who need it is a good enough thing by itself.

Have you checked out “24: Live Another Day” yet?

Several columns back, I talked about how excited that my favorite show was coming back to TV.

After four episodes, I can say with certainty it’s been well worth the ride.

It’s a major change from seasons past because events don’t occur in real time like before. But I feel like this season has been better because it doesn’t stay and brood on one particular situation; it’s fast-moving, but still impactful. It still feels like “24” to me.

If you haven’t started watching yet but want to now, you can go to fox.com and view all the past episodes before tuning in for a new episode this Monday.

Finally, even though this isn’t Sports, I have to put in a shameless plug for the European Champions League final. It will be televised at 1 p.m. Saturday on Fox (Suddenlink Channel 8) and pit Spanish La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Real is loaded with stars, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. Cross-city rivals Atletico have a lot of great players, too, including Diego Costa and Arda Turan.
